CYMHPP built upon the national theme which focused on building resilience in young children dealing with trauma. Locally, CYMHPP sponsored proclamations at the Texas State Capitol 5/2/11, Austin City Hall 4/28/11, and Travis County Commissioners Court 4/26/11. CYMHPP also promoted Facts about Child Trauma and distributed Fact Cards to their partner agencies’ staff.

National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day was held Tuesday, May 3, 2011; CYMHPP supported the 2011 Call to Action for Awareness Day 2011.

To celebrate National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day 2011, CYMHPP sponsored a free training event 5/3/11 at Seton Administration Offices for direct care staff, 84 attended this training. The training “Building Resiliency” was dedicated to promoting awareness of trauma-informed services and building resiliency in children, youth, and their families. Our speakers included Dr.William Streusand, chief of psychiatry at Dell Children’s Medical Center and medical director for the Texas Child Study Center, along with Dr. Molly Lopez, University of Texas-Austin. A video presentation with Dr. Bruce Perry, Child Trauma Academy, was shared. Travis County Trauma Informed Care Resources were also shared with the trainees.

CYMHPP has continued to raise awareness and promote trauma-informed services and supports, An ad hoc training committee of CYMHPP was formed. This training committee will focus this year on further trauma trainings. The first training event was held 11/4/11.
